This large-scale statue depicts Shakyamuni Buddha in the Tibetan Buddhist style from the Qing Dynasty. Cast in solid and refined bronze, the statue is imposing with a well-maintained gilt finish. Shakyamuni Buddha is adorned with a neatly arranged conch-shell hair ornament, and a prominent round ushnisha atop the head. The facial features exhibit the distinctive features of the Tibetan official style, characterized by a flat forehead, full cheeks, a short triangular nose when viewed from the front, and clear, concise lines. The eyes gaze downward with distinct angular features, while the small, round mouth enhances the solemn and serene expression.
The right hand is depicted in the earth-touching mudra, while the left hand holds an alms bowl in the meditation mudra. Seated in the full lotus position, the Buddha's physique is robust and full-bodied, with realistic and detailed fingers, muscular and elastic limbs, and well-proportioned body structure. Adorned in a draped right-shouldered robe and a long skirt below, the clothing is lightweight and adheres closely to the body. Simple decorative patterns adorn the edges, with intricately engraved floral motifs between the folds of the skirt radiating naturally onto the pedestal.
The lotus pedestal is tall and decorated with bead patterns along the upper edge, while the petals are regular and full-bodied. This statue represents a fine example of the Tibetan official style of Shakyamuni Buddha statues from the late Ming to early Qing Dynasty period, making it a masterpiece among contemporary works of the same theme. It is highly recommended for careful collection and appreciation, as well as for ceremonial reverence due to its exceptional craftsmanship and historical significance.
This statue comes from the ancestral collection of a senior student, reflecting its esteemed provenance and cultural heritage.
