In terms of the Black Mahakala practice, this is the highest level of Mahakala practice, known as the Great Perfection Mahakala among the Five Families of Wealth Deities. While each of the Five Families has its own version, such practices have become exceedingly rare over time. This statue is monumental, partially gilt throughout, depicting Mahakala in his three-faced, six-armed form. Robust and powerful in stature, Mahakala's three faces exude awe-inspiring majesty, with thick eyebrows like flames, almond-shaped eyes glaring fiercely, and a prominent nose resembling a hanging bell.
His expression is wrathful yet devoid of intimidating fear. The two main arms in front are extended downward, each holding a mongoose of wealth. The remaining four arms on either side of his body wield a skull cup, vajra lasso, wish-fulfilling jewel, and staff. His feet trample upon two subdued figures representing adversaries, their submissive expressions kneeling atop a lotus pedestal. This impeccably preserved statue, with its colossal size and rare depiction of the Great Perfection Black Mahakala, is truly exceptional. According to legend, it was originally commissioned by an elderly yogi near the Zha Temple
