The 'pengling,' known in Tibetan as 'dingxia,' is a religious instrument used during chanting sessions in monasteries, commonly seen in ritual ceremonies. This particular pengling is crafted from exceptional Limah copper, distinct from ordinary ritual instruments due to its superior craftsmanship and thick, refined patina. Adorning its surface are six-character mantra patterns encircling the body. The bell-shaped cup mouth tapers into a bulbous, raised hemisphere called the 'bowl.' Though compact, the cup is notably thick. A drilled hole at the top secures it with a leather cord. The set of pengling exhibits a clean finish, robust construction, and a lustrous patina. When struck together, these two penguins produce resonant, ethereal tones that echo through the ears, offering a deeply meditative effect. Such petite pengling are exceedingly rare and prized, contrasting significantly with larger, more common variants. Originating from Serla Monastery, it is an essential artifact carried and used by resident masters in their spiritual practices
